Jack Sherwin Whitson, 78 of Asheville , NC passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2017 at his home. A native of Mitchell County , he was the son of the late Joe and Hetty Whitson and the husband of Billie Whitson who passed away in 2015. Jack was a member of the Bethesda Methodist Church in Asheville and he loved to garden.

Survivors include his son, Dean Sherwin Whitson and his wife Teresa of Asheville, NC; daughter, Kimberly Tipton and husband Wayne of Mills River, NC; sisters: Mary Nancy Laws of Walkertown, NC and Jo Ann Lazaro of Asheville; grandchildren: Jacob Tipton and wife Christa, and Kady Tipton.

Funeral services will be 11:30 am Thursday, January 26, 2017 in the chapel of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home, 85 Crimson Laurel Way , Bakersville , NC . The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Tipton Hill Cemetery , Hwy 197N, Green Mountain , NC .
