Henry H. Ingram, 96 of Ingalls passed away January 3, 2024. Born to Stokes and Nola Wise Ingram on September 7, 1927, he has outlived most of his family members including his wife Eulalia M. Ingram. They were married 45 years at the time of her death in 2000. He is survived by three daughters and two sons, a son-in-law, a daughter-in-law, one grandson and his wife and two stepsons. He has one brother still living in his family of nine and two sisters-in-law. Many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends survive him as well. A private burial will occur at a later date. He was a veteran who served in the latter part of WWII and saw action in the Philippines as a radio technician. He utilized the GI bill to attend UNC-Chapel Hill where he received a Bachelor's degree in history and later received a Master's Degree in education from East Tennessee State University. A life long supporter of education, he had a public school teaching career that spanned 28 years in Mitchell and McDowell Counties. The EH Ingram Memorial Scholarship established in the 1990s at Mayland Community College continues to demonstrate his support for education with its annual or semi-annual awards. He grew apples and Christmas trees for many years and was well known for having many of the older apple varieties available. The family graciously acknowledges and appreciates the compassionate care given to him at the Spruce Pine Hospital and The Greens in his final days. The services of Henline-Hughes in Bakersville is also appreciated.
