Helen Louise Stanley Candler

Helen went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, September 18, 2015 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Bad Creek in Mitchell County at the old Beam House on October 13, 1931. Helen was the sixth of twelve children born to Dewey Wesley and Esta Pansy Gouge Stanley.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, George Leslie Candler who passed away in 1990, both of her parents, three of her brothers; Lee, Charlie, and Donald Mack Stanley, and a sister, Gertrude Agnoli.

Left to cherish her wonderful memory are her loving son, Gary Brandon Kivett, of Spruce Pine, NC, and her seven surviving siblings, Lola Morales, of Columbia, SC, Herman Stanley, (Georgia), of Rising Sun, Maryland, Evelyn Bennett (D.C.), of Bakersville, NC, Bill Stanley, of Ingalls, NC, Gibbs Stanley, (Audrey), and Earl Stanley, (Jean), both of Kirkwood, PA, and Shirley Pittman, (Neil), of Spruce Pine, NC.

Helen Graduated from Tipton Hill High School in 1950. After graduation she moved to Baltimore, Maryland where she was employed as a merchandise purchaser of women's apparel by Sears - Roebuck and Company. She later worked in Pinehurst, NC at The Holly Inn and Gray Fox and in Spruce Pine for Hampshire Hosiery before retiring from the Spruce Pine Community Hospital in the Dietary Department. That is where she met and loved her good friend Bessie Swann, today they are catching up on old times. Helen was a very unique person. We as a family had a ongoing affection for her collection of "stuff" that she so freely gave to us all. She always knew what she wanted and how she wanted it. She loved her family, and we all loved her so much. Her only child, Gary was her pride and joy. How she loved him. She loved getting her hair done and a special thanks to her hairdresser, Michelle Rathbone Carroll and her mother Hettie Zell who were so kind to her in her later years.

Helen was a member of Mountain View Missionary Baptist Church. She made a profession of faith at a very early age. She loved her church where her mother taught Sunday School for many years.
