Dateline: Bakersville, NC

Helen Francis Parker Hughes (Kathryn), age 78 of Hwy 226 North, Bakersville, NC went home to be with the Lord April 28, 2023. She was a native of Mitchell County, NC and a daughter of the late Frank and Myrtle Sparks Parker.

She graduated from Tipton Hill High School. Helen was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and was a caregiver. She loved her family and especially loved taking care of the elderly in her community.

Survivors include her husband John Hughes, of the home, one son Christopher Hughes, of Maiden, NC, one granddaughter McKaelon O'Neil Hughes, of Virginia, two sisters; Shelby Parker Cornwell, of Maiden, NC, and Billie Jo Parker Deyton, of Green Mountain, NC, and several nieces, nephews, and extended family.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her siblings; Juanita Smith, Smith Parker, Jim Parker, Herman Parker, Wayne Parker, Marilene Ledford, Dayton Parker, and Mackie Parker.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 1, 2023 at 3:00PM in the chapel of Henline - Hughes Funeral Home with Reverend Mark McKinney officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Red Hill Methodist Church Cemetery.
