H. Virgina Garland, 77, of the Fork Mountain Community, Bakersville, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 8, 2023. She was the daughter of the late William and Ellen Butler.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings: Sonia Butler, Rev. Ermine Butler, William Jr Butler, Wilma Sue Clement, Norma Jean Hopson, Joe Butler, Betty Bailey, and JC Butler.

She was a graduate of Tipton Hill High School. Virginia was a faithful member of Grace Baptist Church for over 50 years and she sang with the Grace Quartet until her declining health prevented her from continuing. She loved to sew and enjoyed her flowers and cooking. Virginia was also an avid poetry writer.

Surviving are her husband of 57 years, Lloyd D. Garland; her daughter, Lisa Honeycutt and husband David of Buladean and her sister, Lovetta Street and husband Ted of Georgia; also several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 1:00 PM Monday, December 11, 2023 in the Fork Mountain Cemetery with Rev. Randy Wise officiating. Everyone is welcome to attend. Memorial donations may be made the Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge, 236 Hospital Drive, Spruce Pine, NC 28777.
