DATELINE; BAKERSVILLE , NC

Guy Ralph Sparks, age 88 of Staggerweed Rd. , Bakersville , NC passed away November 13, 2015 at his home. He was a native of Mitchell County, NC and a son of the late Grover Cleveland and Edith Stamey Sparks.

He was the oldest member of Calvary Baptist Church , and was a Veteran of The United States Army. He was retired from Henredon Furniture where he was a Glass Cutter.

Survivors include: two daughters; Emma Wiseman (Paul), of Newland, NC, and Pam Sparks, of Spruce Pine, NC, one son; Larry Sparks, of Bakersville, NC, seven grandchildren; Larry Dean Sparks Jr., Caleb Dean Sparks, Matthew Wiseman, Cameron Sparks, Lukas Honeycutt, Amber McKinney, and Candice Coffey, four great grandchildren, and a special daughter in law; Rita Sparks.

He was preceded in death by: his wife Edna Sparks, two sons; Marty and Jack Sparks, three brothers; Jack, Bill, and Glen Sparks, and one sister; Maxine Parker.

The family will receive friends Sunday, November 15, 2015 from 6:00PM until 8:00PM in Henline - Hughes Funeral Home Funeral services will be Monday, November 16, 2015 at 11:00AM in Calvary Baptist Church with Shane Gunter and Don Stafford officiating. Interment will follow at Bailey Cemetery ( John Sparks Rd. ) with Sgt. E L Randolph Chapter 57 DAV conducting full military honors.
