George Elmer Young, 88, of Bakersville, NC passed away on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at his home. He was the son of the late Homer "Mose" and Nettie McKinneyYoung and was also preceded in death by all five of his siblings. Elmer was a member of Mine Creek Baptist Church and was a retired employee of Underwood-Weld Trucking in Spruce Pine. He loved working in his garden, fishing and talking on his CB radio.

Survivors include his wife, Mary P. Young of the home; son, Gerald D. Young (Lola) of Bakersville; daughter, Marquetta M. Barnett (Allen) of Bakersville; step children: Kathy Robinson of Marion, NC, Dennis Robinson of Newland, Michael Robinson of Bakersville, James Lee Floyd, and Saundra Buchanan both of Bakersville; 6 grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 6 step great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday, February 8, 2019 in the Mine Creek Baptist Church with Chris Rathbone, Mark McKinney and Badger Underwood officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Mine Creek Cemetery.
