Dateline: Spruce Pine, NC

Gary Martin Burleson, age 71 of Oak Ridge Drive, Spruce Pine, NC went home to be with the Lord January 3, 2022. He was a native of Avery County, NC and a son of the late Homer and Mary Pauline Buchanan Burleson. Gary retired from Henredon Furniture and also retired from Mitchell County Schools as a custodian. He was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church of Spruce Pine and loved to serve the Lord. Gary enjoyed farming, tractors, and horses but especially loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. He will always be remembered for his smile.

Survivors include: his wife Eyvette Biddix Burleson, of the home, three children; Lisa Burleson, Steve Burleson (Whitney), and Nathan Burleson (Hannah), all of Spruce Pine, NC, one brother Earl Ray Burleson (Carolyn), also of Spruce Pine, NC, five grandchildren; Martin, Garren, Desmond, Felicity, and Emmie Nan Burleson, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death in addition to his parents by his sister Glenda Burleson.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 8, 2022 at 3:00PM in First Freewill Baptist Church Spruce Pine with Reverend Ralph Hedrick and Reverend Russell Hughes officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
