Dateline: Bakersville, NC

Frances Marie Hobson McKinney, age 87 of Hwy 261, Bakersville, NC went home to be with the Lord December 29, 2022, with her loving son by her side as he had been for the past several years as her caretaker.

Marie was a native of Mitchell County, NC and a daughter of the late Fonzer and Nettie Ledford Hobson. She was a member of Fork Mountain Baptist Church and taught Sunday School for many years. She enjoyed her flowers, gardening, reading her Bible, and cooking for her family. She devoted her life to caring for her family.

Survivors include her son Ben McKinney (Marcia), of Bakersville, NC, daughter in law Tamela Peterson, of Marion, NC, four grandchildren; Ava Marie McKinney, Matthew, Mark, and Ryan Peterson (Jannell), three great grandchildren; Alex, Ansley, and Alexis Peterson, great great grandson Huxley Torres.

She was preceded in death in addition to her parents by her husband Charles Benton McKinney, sons; Patrick McKinney, and Danny Peterson, sisters; Pearl Hoilman, Belle Buchanan, Blanche Cain, Laura Cooke, and Bernice Cooke, brothers; Frank, Wiley, and Howard Hobson.

Funeral service will be held Sunday, January 1, 2023 at 3:00PM in Fork Mountain Baptist Church with Reverends John McKinney, Larry Greene, and Mike Peterson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Bakersville Memorial Cemetery.
