Essie Wise English age 97 of Charles Creek Rd , Bakersville , NC was peacefully called home on May 12, 2015 . Essie was the sixth child of the late Robert (Bob) and Nora Ledford Wise of Avery County, NC.

She was preceded in death by her husband Herman English, five brothers and five sisters.

Essie was a member of Roan Valley Baptist Church and was also well known in the community for her love and passion to work for the Forest Service on Roan Mountain . Essie loved spending time with her family as head of 5 generations.

Survivors include her children, Melba Davis, and James English (Betty) of Bakersville, NC, three grandchildren, Diane Lowman, of Hickory, Robert English, of Marion, NC, and Ginger English, of Bristol, TN. Essie had five great grandchildren, Camille Gouge (Landon), Daniel McKinney (Tisha), Katie Boone (Dusty), Bradley McKinney, and Tyler English, and two great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 14, 2015 at 2:00PM in the chapel of Henline - Hughes Funeral Home with Roger Hylemon officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Pittman Cemetery on Henson Creek Rd.

While we are saddened at the loss of Essie, we are confident in her salvation and rejoice that she is in Heaven with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
