Dateline; Bakersville, NC

Eloise Ledford age 68 of Hwy 226, Bakersville, NC went home to be with the Lord August 1, 2015 at her home. She was a native of Mitchell County, NC and a daughter of the late Roy C. and Margie Louise Weeks Ledford. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School Classes.

She retired from the North Carolina Dept. of Corrections as a Nurse Practitioner. She graduated Bowman High School class of 1964, Memorial Mission School of Nursing in 1967, and East Tennessee State University as a Nurse Practitioner. She obtained her MSN degree. She helped Establish the first Coronary Care Unit at Memorial Mission Hospital. She was Director of Nursing at Spruce Pine Hospital, taught Nursing at Mayland Technical Community College, trained EMT, and worked at Mitchell County Health Department and also at both Hospice of Mitchell and Yancey County. She also helped to establish Virtual Nursing for Mitchell County Schools. Her focus was as a Family Nurse Practitioner.

Survivors include: three sisters; Rita Burleson (Phillip), of Icard, NC, Kathy McKinney (Marvin), of Newton, NC, and Elizabeth Poteat (Kenny), of Nebo, NC, two brothers; Jerry Ledford (Thurlene), of Burnsville, NC, and Keith Ledford (Mary), of Bakersville, NC, also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Roger Clifton Ledford, and parents, Roy C. and Margie Louise Weeks Ledford .

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at 7:30PM in the chapel of Henline - Hughes Funeral Home with Marvin Miller officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00PM until the service time. Interment will be Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at 11:00AM at Burleson Cemetery.
