Edna Gouge Masters, age 84 of Johnson City passed away on Friday, January 9, 2015 in the Johnson City Medical Center . A native of Mitchell County, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Ed and Sally Ledford Gouge and the wife of Bill Masters who passed away in 2007. Edna worked for the Mitchell County Register of Deeds with her husband Bill for eight years and then she worked with the Board of Elections in Washington County , Tenn. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by four sisters and one brother.
Edna is survived by her daughter, Peggy Masters Spurgeon and husband Dennis of Blountville, TN; her son, Dan Masters of Johnson City; sisters: Mary Parker of Johnson City and Lois Street of Bakersville; brother, Bradley Gouge of Johnson City; two grandsons: Sam Spurgeon and wife Barbara and Billy Spurgeon; granddaughter, Jane Grindstaff and husband Tyler; three great grandchildren: Cayden Spurgeon, Isaac Grindstaff and Shelbe Fite; and her special friends at Boone Hill Condominiums.
Funeral Services will be held at the First Church of the Brethren, Johnson City , TN , of which she was a member, on Monday, January 12, 2015 at 8:00 pm with Pastor Bo Deyton officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. Interment will be 11:00 am Tuesday in the church cemetery.
