Dateline: Bakersville, NC

Dwight Thomas, age 79 of Green Creek Rd, Bakersville, NC passed away November 22, 2023. He was a native of Mitchell County, NC and the son of the late Floyd and Hattie Greene Thomas. Dwight attended Little Rock Creek Baptist Church.

Dwight was self employed and owned and operated Thomas Produce, Thomas Farming, and Thomas Grocery. Dwight was well known in the community where he and his family operated Thomas Grocery an old time country store in the Glen Ayre community that opened in 1930. Dwight enjoyed working, and meeting people and visiting with them at the store.

Survivors include his wife Katherine "Kitty" Thomas of the home, three sons: Joe Thomas (Anne), of Spruce Pine, NC, Greg Thomas, of Bakersville, NC, and Gerald Thomas (Carrie), of Cleveland, Virginia, three grandchildren: Chloe, Shelby, and Danny Thomas, sister in law Jean Wilson, of Mountain City, TN, several nieces and nephews, and many friends in the community.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his half sister Charlene Sparks.

A graveside service will be held Sunday, November 26, 2023 at Major Cemetery (Green Creek Rd) at 2:00PM with Reverend Keith Beck officiating. A meal to celebrate Dwight's life will be held following the graveside at Little Rock Creek Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Little Rock Creek Baptist Church.
