Obituary

Doug Silver age 86 of Bakersville passed away Wednesday August 19, 2026 in the Select Specialty Hospital in Bristol, TN. Born in Mitchell County, NC he was a son of the late John Lucian and Arah Johnson Silver. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Phyllis Moskowitz and Helen Phillips.

Doug owned and operated the Silver Apple Orchard in Bakersville, he was a member of Cub Creek Baptist Church and had served two terms as Vice President of the North Carolina Apple Growers Association. He enjoyed NASCAR, cars and hot rods leading to him getting the nickname of “Speedy” in high school, and he sang with The Redeemed Singers for ten years.

Left to cherish his memories is his wife Rosalie “Rosie” Burnette Silver of the home, a brother Mike Silver and wife Janice of Bakersville and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Silver will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday August 22, 2026 at the Cub Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Doug Willis officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the church. Internment will follow in the Bakersville Memorial Cemetery.
