Doris Young Shelton, 89, of Bakersville, passed away on Saturday, May 26, 2018 in Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC. She was the daughter of the late Kelly and Inez McNeill. Doris was also preceded in death by her husbands, George D. Young and Charles Shelton; her daughter, Barbara Young Christenson; brothers: Scott McNeill and Glen McNeill; and sister, Phyliss McNeill Beckner, nephew, Bobby McNeill and niece Libby.

Doris is survived by her son, Doug Young and wife Lila of Bakersville; grandchildren: Jennifer Young Revels of Bakersville and Aaron Young and wife Crystal of Bakersville; great grandchildren: Finley Revels, Waverly Revels, Creed Revels, Owen Young, Craig Young and Miles Young; sister in law, Marion McNeill; niece, Susie Carpenter and husband Steve; nephews: John Beckner and wife Kathy and Tom Beckner and wife Michelle.

Doris Was a longtime member of Bakersville Baptist Church where she was a choir member for many years. She was a 37 year retiree of French Broad Electric. She enjoyed doing ceramics for many years. After retiring she enjoyed traveling with husband Charles and going on Christian Tours with friends.

Funeral services will be 3:00 pm Tuesday, May 29, 2018 in the Bakersville Baptist Church with Pastor Jim Sutton and Rev. Larry Joe Greene officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Green Young Cemetery.
