Doris Whitson Byrd age 87, of Battle Branch Rd. Bakersville, NC went home to be with the Lord October 3, 2022, She was a native of Mitchell County, NC and the daughter of the late Sam Jr. and Margaret Beam Whitson. She was a Homemaker and a member of St. Paul Freewill Baptist Church, where she was Treasurer for many years. She loved her flowers, cooking, spending time with her family and especially loved her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death in addition to her parents by her husband L. C. "Budge" Byrd, an infant son, son in law Lou Gunn, daughter in law Donna Byrd, and a grandchild Samantha.

Survivors include six children; Patricia Gunn, of Johnson City, TN, Eddie Byrd, Mike Byrd (Vickie), Sue Genis (Mike), Nancy Whorten (Tim), and Charlie Byrd, all of Bakersville, NC, eleven grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, and ten great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 6, 2022 at 3:00PM in St. Paul Freewill Baptist Church with Reverend Roger Laws and Reverend Gordon Lewis officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Beans Creek Cemetery.
