Obituary

Deborah Lynn Palmer-Anderson, 66, formerly of Napoleon passed away peacefully at her North Carolina mountain home on August 16, 2022. She was born January 4, 1956, in Napoleon to Lawrence Palmer and Marilyn Babcock Palmer.

Deb was a 1974 graduate of Napoleon High School and from the Toledo Hospital School of Nursing in 1977.  She obtained her BSN from The Florida Atlantic University, graduating Summa Cum Laude, in 2005.  Deb was a level 3 registered NICU nurse and worked at Joe DiMaggio children's Hospital in Hollywood, Florida for 32 years and then at Mission Hospital in Asheville, North Carolina for 8 years. Her other job was operating a 6-acre farm in North Carolina that consisted of 30 chickens, 1 horse, 3 bunnies and many apple trees and grape vines. She collected eggs from her free-range chickens and supplied the local community with them. Debbie also was active in her community belonging to Bakersville Baptist Church and volunteering for the local fire department.

Debbie was a member of the DAR and loved genealogy and researching multiple generations of Babcock, Bauman, Snyder, and Palmer in her family tree. Reading books and doing medical research was a large portion of her free time. She was an artist and enjoyed just being in nature.  She was also into fly fishing, quail hunting, dressage horseback riding with her spotted saddle horse "Captain", camping, butterfly gardens, antique shopping, gardening, baking banana bread, hiking the falls, orchids, and her citrus greenhouse. She grew or harvested almost everything she ate, and she will finally be returned to the land.  She loved having or making everything natural or organic. A true grit survival live off the land lady. She was extremely hard working and never stopped and always on the go with a project or task. She loved her morning coffee in her solarium room, where she could watch the deer and rabbits. She was a lover of hammocks and just a few minutes of sunshine everyday and felt at peace when at the beach or swimming.

Her children are Erik Anderson who is married to Courtney and reside in Fernandina Beach, Florida and Brittany Hicks who lives in Fort Bragg, North Carolina with children Brinley, Bowen, and Bailey. Her two children and three grandchildren were her greatest joy. Her best friend was her sister, Julie Saputo. Her hero was always her grandma, Helen Snyder Palmer. She will be missed by all her close friends in Bakersville, North Carolina and in her hometown of Napoleon.

Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life held at The Emporium, 130 E. Clinton Street, Napoleon, on Saturday, October 1, 2022 from 10 AM until 12:30 PM.
