Debbie Lou Burleson Buchanan passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday July 12th, 2026. A native of Mitchell county North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late James Avery Burleson and Louella Evelyn (McKinney) Burleson.

Debbie dedicated her life to the service and care of others as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She gave of herself generously and without hesitation. Her radiant smile, contagious laughter, and servants heart left a lasting impression on those she cared for and those who worked alongside her.

She expressed her love most often through cooking. Her kitchen was the heart of her home. Every dish made carried a piece of her heart and few things made her happier than sharing those dishes with family, friends and neighbors.

Above all, Debbie kept her family at the center of her world. She found her deepest joy in the time she spent with those she loved. Her love for her family was unconditional, constant, and evident through all of her kind gestures. The love she gave so freely to her family will echo on through generations.

Debbie is survived by brother Doug Burleson (Missy), sister Tammy Byrd (Terry), nieces Monica Burleson, Tiffany Burleson, Brittany Phillips (Cody), Savanah Burleson, former spouse and lifelong friend Robbie Buchanan, devoted friend and helper Chris Sparks, great nephews Colton Phillips and Brayden Phillips, and her best friend and favorite feline Wolf the Cat.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at a later date. The family will contact the community when official dates have been set. In lieu of flowers the family ask that you make donations to the charity of your choice.
