Darrell Eugene Hammett, age 85, of Claremont, NC passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2019 in the Catawba Valley Medical Center. A native of Mitchell County, he was the son of the late  John and Annie Laws Hammett. Darrell retired from the furniture mfg industry and enjoyed wood working and (piddling).

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Alice Hill Hammett of the home; sons, Charles Randy Hammett and Bailey "Gene" Hammett and wife Heather all of Claremont; and two grandchildren, Erin Rossner and Tyler Hammett. in addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Frank Hammett.

The family will receive friends Friday, July 5, 2019 from 5 to 7 pm in the Bethel Lutheran Church, 5759 Bolick Road, Claremont, NC. Funeral services will be Saturday in the Roans Chapel Freewill Baptist Church located on Greasy Creek Road in Bakersville, NC at 3:00 pm with Revs. Randy English and Bob McCurry officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and burial will follow in the Garland Parker Cemetery, Blevins Branch Road, Bakersville, NC.
