Dateline: Spruce Pine, NC

Clarence Stokes McClellan, age 85, of Cabin Rd, Spruce Pine, NC passed away December 7, 2018 at his home. He was a native of Avery County, NC and a son of the late John Stokes and Lizzie Woody McClellan.

He was a Veteran of The United States Army, and retired as  maintenance Mechanic with Hampshire Hosiery and Harris Mining Company. He was a member of Gouges Creek Baptist Church. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, and a friend to all who knew him. Clarence loved music, and loved to play his harmonica and banjo.

Survivors include: his wife; Hazel Ledford McClellan, of the home, sons; Randy McClellan (Brenda), of Spruce Pine, NC, and Steve McClellan, also of Spruce Pine, NC, daughters; Linda Beauvais (George), of Spruce Pine, NC, Beverly Cassida (Charles), of Green Mountain, NC, Jane McClellan, of Spruce Pine, NC, and stepdaughter; Sherry Hoilman (Dean), of Bakersville, NC, sixteen grandchildren, and fourteen great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death in addition to his parents by: children; Jerry McClellan, and Sandra Ledford, three sisters; Mary Hoilman, Pearl McClellan, and Mae Thomas, and seven brothers; Obie, John, Oscar, Guy, Joe, Eli, and Brown McClellan.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 13, 2018 at 2:00PM in the chapel of Henline - Hughes Funeral Home with Jim Hoilman and Doug Bare officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Military Honors will be conducted by Sgt. EL Randolph Chapter 57 DAV. Interment will follow the service at The McClellan Family Cemetery.
