Charles Stamey Jr., age 86 of Green Cove Rd , Bakersville , NC passed away February 14, 2016 at his home. He was a native of Mitchell County, NC and a son of the late Charles and Della Turbyfill Stamey.

He was a veteran of the United States Air Force where he served in Korea and Japan . he was a member and deacon of Roan Mountain Baptist Church . He was a graduate of NC A&T University in Greensboro , and was retired from The North Carolina Agricultural Extension Office. He was an avid fox hunter and farmer.

Survivors include his daughter, Denise G. Stamey, of Bakersville , NC , and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death in addition to his parents by: his wife; Mae Staton Stamey, three sisters; Gertrude McKinney, Hazel Grindstaff, and Odia McKinney, and three brothers; Ralph, Jeter, and Claude.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 18, 2016 at 4:00PM in Roan Mountain Baptist Church with Tim Fowler and Don Stafford officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. Interment will follow at Wilson Young Cemetery with full military honors conducted by Sgt EL Randolph Chapter 57 DAV.
