It is with heartfelt reverence that we announce the passing of Buster Greene, beloved resident of Highway 261, Bakersville, North Carolina, who peacefully departed this life on May 6, 2026, at the age of 89. Born in Mitchell County, NC, Buster was the cherished son of the late Dewey and Nancy Yelton Greene.

A devoted member of Grace Baptist Church, Buster’s faith was a cornerstone of his life. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, including the camaraderie of golf, the thrill of NASCAR, and the meticulous care of his lawn through mowing and landscaping. His presence at the Mitchell County Senior Center was a source of happiness, where he engaged warmly with friends and community members. Buster’s distinguished career culminated with his retirement as a Construction Superintendent at Nello Teer Construction Company, reflecting a lifetime of dedication and hard work.

Buster was preceded in death not only by his parents but also by his beloved wife, Shelby Jean Greene, whose memory he held dear.

He leaves to cherish his legacy his sons, Todd Greene and his wife Taryn, and Lane Brian Greene; his brothers, George Greene and his wife Margaret, and Bruce Greene and his wife Nancy; as well as his grandchildren, Caitlin Mooney and her husband Brendan, and Chadwick Greene. The family circle extends to include his great-grandchild, Parker Abigail Mooney, who brought him great joy.

A celebration of Buster Greene’s life will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at 4:00 PM at Grace Baptist Church on Highway 261, with Reverend Lance Riddle officiating the service. The family will welcome friends for an hour prior to the ceremony. Interment will follow at Baxter Hobson Cemetery.
