BOBBY E. PHILLIPS

OBITUARY

Bobby Emerson Phillips, of the Ledger community in Mitchell County, NC, passed away Friday, February 9th, 2024 at Mission Hospital in Asheville following injuries from a fall at home. He was born 1933 near Pleasant Hill, NC and lived to the ripe old age of 90.

Bobby was raised in Spruce Pine and Bakersville before attending college at Berea, Mars Hill, and NC State studying nuclear engineering and mathematics. His career was spent in central Florida until he retired back to Bakersville in 1989 to pursue woodturning. It was a good and early retirement from pursuing practical jokes and mathematics/programming with coworkers.  He was loved and will be missed for his intelligence, quirky wit, and curiosity.

He is survived by his daughter Janet Phillips Kenniasty (husband Frank and daughter Natalie) of San Carlos, CA and his sister Marie Thomas of Morrisville, NC.  Dr. Ken Phillips, Becky Sims, and Louis Phillips are special cousins. Bobby is predeceased by parents Florence and Robert B. Phillips, his wife Shirley Styles Phillips and son Robert Scott Phillips, as well as cousin Jesse Greene.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 9th from 1pm till 2pm with a simple memorial to begin at 2pm in Henline-Hughes Funeral Home, 85 Crimson Laurel Way, Bakersville, NC.
