Billy Dean Buchanan, 73, of Bakersville, passed from this life into the arms of the sweet Savior on November 9, 2017 at his home with his family and friends present.

Born in Bakersville , NC , he was the son of the late Brack and Madyth Stamey Buchanan. He was a self employed truck driver for 53 years before his valiant 4 year fight with cancer. He loved his family and spending as much time with them as possible and he loved fishing and watching sports. He was a 32nd degree mason and a member of the Bakersville Masonic Lodge No.357 AF & AM. He attended Mine Creek Baptist Church and loved joking and telling stories to everyone. He was a wonderful, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He never complained during his sickness and always had a smile.

He is survived by the absolute love of his life for 55 years, Saundra Floyd Buchanan of the home; son, Billy Buchanan Jr of Bakersville; daughter, Connie Buchanan Denney (Tommy) of Vilas, and sister Jean Whitson of Marion; three grandchildren: Caitlin Presnell (Tommy), James Lichtenhahn (Hannah), Monica Buchanan (Johnathan); step grandchildren, Christopher Layell (Nicole), Amber, Hailey and Cameron Denny and Hannah Baker; great grandchildren: Sophia and Matthew Presnell, and  Mattie Higgins; special brother in law and sister in law, Jim and Carolyn Floyd and special helpers: Gary Gouge and Kenneth Woody and Izzy his faithful dog.

Funeral Services will be 3:00 pm Sunday, November 12, 2017 in the Mine Creek Baptist Church with Chris Rathbone, Daniel Whetstine and Rick Ross officiating. Burial will follow in the Cane Creek Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites conducted by Bakersville Masonic Lodge #357 AF & AM. The family will receive friends  one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge , 236 Hospital Drive , Spruce Pine , NC 28777 .
