Bernie Renfro, age 88, of the Brummitts Creek Community, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 8, 2015 in the Mission Hospital, Asheville, NC. He was the son of the late Lester and Myrtle Miller Renfro. Bernie was proud of his military service. He was a Private 1st Class serving in the Philippines , Luzon Islands for 6 mos, Japan for 6 mos, serving in the South Pacific under General McArthur with the 43rd Infantry Division; he received a Bronze Star for the Luzon Battle, a Combat Infantry Badge and 9 other ribbons.  Bernie later retired from the Clinchfield and CSX Railroad.       He was a member  of the Brummitts Creek Freewill Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for 40 years.

Bernie is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Elouise Peterson Renfro; daughter, Loretta Silver and husband Bud of Burnsville; sons, David Renfro and wife Jill of Green Mtn and Larry Renfro and wife Shea of Bakersville; sisters: Nora Metcalf of Green Mtn and Ora Mae Bailey of Granite Falls, NC; one brother, Glen Renfro of Green Mtn; grandchildren: Amanda Silver-Swaney, Ashley Renfro Miller, Joseph Renfro, Jason Renfro and Alexa Renfro; great grandchildren: Jessica Swaney, Whitney Swaney and Rose Olivia Renfro. Bernie was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: R.C. , Lloyd and Ray Renfro and one sister, Grace Robinson.

Bernie will be greatly missed by all his loving family and friends.

Funeral Services will be 8:00 pm Monday, May 11, 2015 in the Brummitts Creek Freewill Baptist Church with Paul Bennett, Roy Whitson and Josh Miller officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. Burial will be 11:00 am Tuesday in the Peterson Cemetery on Flat Branch Road with full military honors conducted by the DAV Sgt E.L. Randolph  Chapter 57 NC.
