Bernice Buchanan Harrell , age 85 of Shady Lane Bakersville, NC, Glen Ayre Community went home to be with The Lord, January 12, 2015 . She was a native of Mitchell County, NC and was the daughter of the late Carper William and Mae Randolph Buchanan. She was retired from The Mitchell County Sheriff Department where she was a Matron. She was a lifelong member of Little Rock Creek Baptist Church where she was active until the last year. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and housekeeping.

She was generous and caring and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Survivors include; three daughters; Diane Greene (Bobby), Kathy Kuhne (Keith), and Christy Harrell, all of Bakersville, NC, one son Ritchie Harrell (Gail), also of Bakersville, NC, four grandchildren; Robin Street, Heather Gouge, Brandon Greene, and Austin Harrell, six great grandchildren, and a nephew; Mike Buchanan.

She was preceded in death by; her husband; Merrell Harrell, one son; Randy Harrell, and a brother; Charles Buchanan.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 14, 2015 from 6:00PM until 8:00PM in Henline - Hughes Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 15, 2015 at 2:00PM in Little Rock Creek Baptist Church with Dallas Renfro and Greg McKinney officiating. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Interment will follow the service at Randolph Cemetery .
