Bernard Pierre “Bernie” Rousseau October 10, 1929 – July 11, 2026

Bernard Pierre “Bernie” Rousseau, age 96, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2026.

Born on October 10, 1929, Bernie was the beloved son of the late Germaine and Raymond Rousseau. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of many years, Rita Rousseau; his daughter, Linda DiCarlo; and his sister, Jacqueline.

He is lovingly survived by his sons, Lars Rousseau (Tamara) and Chris Stonbach (Tammie); his daughters, Rita DiCarlo and Deborah DiCarlo; his niece, Silvia; his grandchildren, Lisa DiCarlo (John Mustard), Scott Wagers (Kendra), Conner Stonbach (Renilyne), Victor Rousseau, Shannon Johnson (Alex), Melody Rousseau, and Olivia Rousseau (Matthew Johnson); and his cherished great-grandchildren, Nicolas, Jassem, Ayla, Serena, Isabela, Carsten, Avett, Rhyland, and Aviana.

Bernie proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Following his honorable military service, he worked for the U.S. Information Agency in Washington, D.C., before relocating to North Carolina, where he was employed at the Rosman Satellite Tracking Station in Rosman, North Carolina and later at Union Carbide in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

A man of many talents and interests, Bernie had a lifelong love of music and worked as a sound engineer, with a special appreciation for bluegrass and jazz. He was also a passionate cyclist who designed and built his own unique upright bicycle, making him a familiar sight on roads and trails throughout many parts of the country. His innovative design reflected both his creativity and adventurous spirit. In later years, Bernie found great joy hiking throughout the Appalachian and Blue Ridge Mountains, where he appreciated the beauty and serenity of nature.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Compassionate Care of Western North Carolina for the exceptional care, compassion, and support provided throughout Bernie’s journey. We are especially thankful to the hospice team whose kindness and dedication brought comfort to Bernie and his family during his final days.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date for family and close friends.
