Beloved Wife, Sister, Mother, and Grandmother

Barbara Ann Young, 89, passed away Thursday afternoon, April 6th, 2023, at home in Grandy, North Carolina, surrounded by family. Barbara was born on January 27th, 1934, in Yancey County, North Carolina. She was the 8th of 10 siblings born to James and Daisy Young. She married her first husband of 49 years, Elmo D. Young, in September of 1955. They were together until his death at the age of 72 in 2005. She later married Edward G. McQueen in December of 2016. They remained together until his death at the age of 84 in 2021. She enjoyed baking, reading (especially her bible), traveling, and spending time with family.

She is survived by her twin brother Bill Young of Spruce Pine; two sons: Edward "Eddie" (Linda) Young of Spruce Pine NC, and Kevin (Teresa) Young of Grandy NC; seven grandchildren: Brandon (Dara) Young, Tabitha (Daniel) Nance, Kayla (Lance) Silver, Nathaniel (Sydney) Young, Kagan (Tori) Young, Aaron Young, and Karah Young. She also has six great grandchildren: Grayson, Jonathan, Christian, McKinley, Isabella, and Lyla. Barbara also leaves behind several nieces and nephews whom she loved and adored.

She was preceded in death by her parents, in addition to eight of her siblings Wilma Boone, Warren Young, Floy Gage, Allie Buchanan, Verna Huskins, Geneva Boone, Shelba Jean Grindstaff, and Freeda Boone.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at Henline-Hughes Funeral Home, Bakersville, NC. Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm with services immediately following. She will be buried beside her husband Elmo at Snow Hill Cemetery near where they were church members of Snow Hill Baptist Church for many years.
