Azalene Duncan Hughes, age 85 of Hamburg Rd, Bakersville, NC went to Heaven to wake at Jesus feet on November 6, 2017 . She was a daughter of the late John and Ella Pitman Duncan and a native of Mitchell County, NC. She was a lifelong member of Bear Creek Baptist Church and was retired from Henredon Furniture.

Azalene was a loving wife and mother and enjoyed spending time at the Mitchell County Senior Citizen Center.

Survivors include, one daughter Wanda Hughes Smith, of Spruce Pine, NC, one son Mark Allen Hughes, (Alfreda), of Bakersville, NC, one sister Carolyn Staton, of Bakersville, NC, grandchildren: Lisa Carson, Billy Hoyle, and Travis Smith, great grandchildren: Tre Carson, Kayla Elkins, Dillon Oaks, Autumn Smith, and Hannah Smith. and special caretakers Linda and John Edwards.

She was preceded in death in addition to her parents by, her husband Quince Hughes, a sister Ann Buchanan, and three brothers: Phillip Duncan, Holden Duncan, and Lee Duncan.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at 2:00PM in Bear Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Bruce Cannon officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
