Arnold S. (Junior) Phillips, age 70, of Bakersville, NC went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 from the CarePartners Hospice facility in Asheville, NC. He was the son of the late Arnold and Marie Pitman Phillips. Junior was a U.S. Army veteran proudly serving his country in Vietnam . He loved to hunt and fish and he loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Junior is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Naomi Sparks Phillips; sons: Chris Phillips of Bakersville and John Phillips of Baltimore, MD; step children: Karen Bryant of Marion, NC, Libby Edwards and husband Gary  and Gary Sparks and wife Angel all of Bakersville; sisters: Judy Roland of Marion, Janice Hoilman and husband Harold of Bakersville and Jackie Lail and husband Ernie of Hickory; brothers: Jimmy Phillips and wife Betty of Bakersville and Randy Phillips and wife Donna of Spruce Pine; step grandchildren: Jordan and Jeremy Sparks, Jenny Edwards and Tiffany Holtz; step great grandchildren: Hayden and Blakelynn Holtz and Jayden Edwards. Also several nieces and nephews. Junior was preceded in death by a son, Michael Phillips, a  step grandson, Jacob Sparks, sister, Linda Ballenger and a brother, Allen Phillips.

Funeral services will be 8:00 pm Saturday, May 16, 2015 in the chapel of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home with Todd Ayers and Ray Lane officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be 2:00 pm Sunday, May 17, 2015 in the Malone Gouge Cemetery with military honors conducted by the DAV Sgt. E.L. Randolph Chapter 57.
