Paul Ledford Obituary

John 3:16 – For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Unicoi, TN – Mr. Paul Ledford, age 82, passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2019, at Hillview Nursing & Rehab Center.  He was a native of Mitchell County, NC, and had made his home in Unicoi, TN, for the last 49 years.  He was the son of the late Rev. Floyd & Maggie Ledford.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Mary Nell Ledford (Butler) in March 2015.  Aside from his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Matteline Driver, and two brothers, Earnest & Melvin Ledford

Paul was a graduate of Bowman High School and a U.S. Army veteran.  He was employed by Bethleham Steel, Baltimore, MD, and retired from Gordan’s/Thomasville Furniture, Johnson City, TN.  He enjoyed talking about his two “favorite” grandbabies, gardening, western shows & movies, and Atlanta Braves baseball.  He set aside time each day to study the Bible and had read it through many times.  He was a member of Spring Creek Baptist Church, Buladean, NC.

Paul is survived by his son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren Dwayne, Hope, Samuel, and Caroline Ledford, Johnson City, TN; brother G.C. (Faye) Ledford, Bakersville, NC; brothers and sisters-in-law Carl (Judy) Butler, Unicoi, TN, Mack Butler, Johnson City, TN, and Howard (Ann) Butler, Bakersville, NC; nephews Floyd and Mike (Susan) Driver, Mt. Airy, MD; Scotty (Elizabeth) Butler, Bakersville, NC, and David (Julie) Butler, Erwin, TN.

The family would like to thank Paul’s brothers and sisters in laws for all the kindness they showed over the past 3 years.  A thank you also to the employees of Hillview Nursing Home and Amedisys Hospice for the excellent care they provided Paul during his stay as well as Drew Turner, NP, and Dr. Mehdi Pourmorteza, MD, with the James H Quillen VA Hospice team for all of they did during this time.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, September 30, 2019, at 4pm in Spring Creek Baptist Church with Bro. Bob McCurry officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.  Interment will immediately follow the funeral services at Butler Cemetery, Buladean, NC.  Music will be provided by Cindy Higgins-Odom, pianist, and Julie Butler, soloist.  Pallbearers will be selected friends and family.

Memorials may be made to Gideon’s International, Mitchell County Camp at P.O. Box 611 Spruce Pine, NC, 28777.
