Orlie James Rathbone

Orlie James Rathbone, age 92, of Cane Creek Rd., Bakersville, NC, went home to be with the Lord, October 16, 2019. He was a native of Mitchell County, NC and a son of the late George and Bessie McKinney Rathbone. He was retired from American Thread Company and was a Veteran of The United States Army, serving in World War II in France and Germany. He was a member of Roan Mountain Baptist Church and enjoyed The Mitchell County Senior Citizens Center.

Survivors include: daughters; Cynthia Rathbone Burleson, (Ronald), of Bakersville, NC, and Michele Carroll, (Joe), of Spruce Pine, NC, five sisters; Trula Gardner, of Bakersville, NC, Georgia Riddle, of Burnsville, NC, Rosalie Ledford, of Spruce Pine, NC, Brenda Freeman, of Marion, NC, and June Frye, of Spruce Pine, NC, two stepchildren; Becky Manfull, and Alan Jones, three grandchildren; Elizabeth Allen, Jacob Carroll, and Michaela Carroll, four step grandchildren; Amy Tapp, John Manfull, Alma Lee Shumate, and Alana Huston.

He was preceded in death in addition to his parents by: his wives; Rose Young Rathbone, and Maxine Johnson Rathbone, sisters; Gladys Jones, Cleo Wilson, brothers; Emory Rathbone, and Wilkie Rathbone.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 18, 2019 at 7:00PM in Roan Mountain Baptist Church (Sandy Branch Rd.), with Reverend Russell McKinney and Reverend Mark McKinney officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. Interment will be Saturday, October 19, 2019 at 11:00AM, at Green - Young Cemetery, with Reverend Tim Fowler officiating. Military Honors will be provided by Sgt. E.L. Randolph Chapter 57 DAV.  Henline - Hughes Funeral Home is assisting the Rathbone family.
