Melvin Ray Garland, 60, of Lexington, NC passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 due to medical complications of his heart. He was the son of the late Roy Howard Garland and Ima Jean Garland of Lexington, NC.
A lifelong resident of Welcome, NC, Melvin loved playing his drums and was the drummer for the Stumpy Mullet Band of Lexington. He also loved woodworking, feeding the animals, barbecuing, cooking and landscaping. He was also a dedicated Baltimore Orioles and NASCAR fan.
Melvin is survived by, in addition to his mother, his brother, Marvin Garland of Unicoi, TN; nieces: Tricia Garland and Michelle Dedo: and 1 great niece and 4 great nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, September 20, 2019 in the chapel of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home with G.B. Garland officiating. Burial will follow in the Malone Gouge Cemetery on Hwy 261 North, Bakersville, NC. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association by going to www.heart.org.
