Laura (Abernathy) Yelton

Laura Abernathy Yelton, age 89, of Jarrett Rd., Bakersville, NC went home to be with the Lord March 8, 2019. She was a native of Mitchell County, NC and a daughter of the late Earl and Quinnie Burleson Abernathy. She was a homemaker and member of Bear Creek Baptist Church. She loved to garden, flowers, NASCAR racing, and wrestling.

Survivors include: two daughters; Sharon Hopson (Cotton), of Burnsville, NC, and Janice Sparks (Larry), of Spruce Pine, NC, one sister in law; Nina Abernathy, of Thomasville, NC, one son in law; Kenny Buchanan, of Bakersville, NC, five grandchildren; Shane Hopson, Matthew Hopson, Angie Jackson, Kimberly Hooks, and Ashley Buchanan, seven great grandchildren; Brianna Hopson, Corbin Cooper, Tyler Hopson, Christian Hopson, Gavin Hooks, Hayley Hooks, and London Jackson.

She was preceded in death in addition to her parents by: her husband, George Yelton; a daughter; Sandra Buchanan, two sisters; Rosa Smith and Beulah Huskins, and two brothers; Pat and Charlie Abernathy.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 10, 2019 at 3:00PM in Bear Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Bruce Cannon and Rev. Chris Rathbone officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Entombment will follow the service at Bear Creek Mausoleum.
