James Byrd Obituary

            James "Jim" Byrd, 92 of Bakersville, NC passed away on Sunday, March 25, 2018. He was the son of the late Rayburn and Mabel Webb Byrd and the husband of the late Lewelyn Blevins Byrd. He was also preceded in death by his sisters: Lois Gouge and Betty Ayers and brother Hayes Byrd. Jim was a member of the Red Hill United Methodist Church and a US Navy veteran. He was a farmer and a truck driver for Mason-Dixon Trucking for 28 years.

 

            Survivors include his daughters: Sally Woody and husband Bruce and Molly Pore and husband Tom all of Bakersville; sons: James A Byrd and wife Charlene and Brown R. Byrd and wife Carolyn also of Bakersville; brothers: Bradley and Jack Byrd both of Bakersville; grandchildren: James, Kandra, Misti, Casey, Kali, TJ, and Lindsey; step granddaughter, Michelle; 7 great grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren; special family friend, Marie Garland.

 

            The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at Henline-Hughes Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 pm with Gene Lanier and Bob Hensley officiating. Military Honors will conclude the service at the funeral home.  Burial will be 11:00 am Thursday in the Byrd Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Red Hill United Methodist Church or the Byrd Cemetery Fund, PO Box 423, Bakersville, NC 28705.
