Larry Ledford Obituary

Larry Dean Ledford, a native of the Glen Ayre community in Mitchell County, passed away on March 15, 2024, at the WhiteStone Care and Wellness Center in Greensboro. He was 75 years old. Larry was born on May 2, 1948, to his late parents Stokes Rube and Norma Street Ledford.

Larry's early years were rooted in Glen Ayre, where he attended Glen Ayre Elementary and later graduated from Bowman High School. He was a member of Little Rock Creek Baptist Church until 1989 when he relocated after the passing of his mother. Most of his adult life was spent in Ashe County, North Carolina.

Throughout his life, Larry had a deep affection for people and a profound love for the great outdoors. He found immense joy in the company of friends who shared his passion for nature. Hunting and fishing were among Larry's greatest passions, pursuits that brought him solace and fulfillment.

Left to honor Larry's memory are his brother, Lewis Ledford, and sister-in-law Susan, residing in Winston-Salem. Larry also leaves behind numerous beloved cousins and friends, including his special friend Kenny McGrady, who enriched his life with memorable hunting and fishing experiences.

The family extends heartfelt appreciation to the compassionate staff at the WhiteStone Care and Wellness Center and the AuthoraCare Hospice team of Greensboro for their exceptional care.

A celebration of Larry’s life will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, March 21, 2024, in the chapel of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home at 85 Crimson Laurel Way, Bakersville, NC. Rev. Scott Greene will officiate the service. Prior to the service, the family will receive friends for one hour. Burial will follow in the Burleson Family Cemetery on Gouge Cove Road.

Larry Dean Ledford will be dearly missed by all who knew him, but his love for life and nature will live on in the hearts of those he touched. May he rest in eternal peace.
