| DATELINE: SPRUCE PINE, NC JAKE T. YOUNG
Jake T. Young, 83,
of 112 Oakdale Drive, Spruce Pine, NC passed Tuesday, April 27,
2010. Jake was a life-long resident of Mitchell County in the Grassy
Creek community. After serving in the U.S. Navy from 1945-49, he
returned to Spruce Pine in 1952 and soon graduated from Lees-McRae
College in Banner Elk, NC.
He then began
working for Carolina Tire Company as a TV repairman. In 1970, he
became an electronics vocational teacher for Harris High School,
then Mitchell High School, and finally Harris Middle School before
retiring in 1993. During those years, he also started Young's TV
Service and made many, many in-home TV repairs in Spruce Pine and
the surrounding towns.
He was the son of
Joe and Ann Young of Spruce Pine, 409 Walnut Avenue. Jake was a
member, a deacon, and Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church
of Spruce Pine. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah
Christine Buchanan of Bakersville, NC and his son, David Wesley
Young. He is survived by a daughter, Ginger McKinney, her husband,
Bobby and granddaughter, Erica and a son, Chad, his wife, Melanie,
grandson, Adam, and granddaughter, Sarah of Knoxville, TN.
The receiving of
friends will be at Henline-Hughes Funeral Home in Bakersville, NC,
Friday, April 30, 2010 from 6:30-8:30 pm. Funeral services will also
be at Henline-Hughes, 11:00 am,
Saturday, May 1, 2010 followed by graveside service at Green-Young
Cemetery, Bakersville, NC.
Henline-Hughes Funeral Home is assisting the Young family.
