| DATELINE: BAKERSVILLE, NC SMITH PARKER
Smith Parker, age 79 of Hwy 197 Bakersville NC passed away April
4 at his home. He was the son of the late Frank and Myrtle Sparks
Parker and a native of Mitchell County, NC. He was a Veteran of The
United States Air Force and The United States Army. He served in The
Korean War where he was awarded a Silver Star and Bronze Star.
He was a member of Red Hill United Methodist Church. Survivors
include; wife Mildred Hollifield Parker of the home, sons, Steve
Parker, of Spruce Pine, NC and Tommy Parker, of Asheville, NC,
daughters, Rhonda Parker, of Spruce Pine, NC sisters, Shelby
Jean Cornwell, of Maiden, NC, Marilene Ledford, of Maiden, NC,
Billie Jo Deyton, of Green Mountain, NC, and Helen Hughes, of
Bakersville, NC, one brother, Wayne Parker, of Burnsville, NC, and
fourteen grandchildren. He was preceded in death by; sister,
Juanita Coxe, brothers, Dayton, Mack, Herman, and Jim Parker.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 6 at 7:00PM in the
chapel of Henline - Hughes Funeral Home with Paul Bennett
officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00PM until the
service time. Interment will be Monday, April 7 at 11:00AM at Red
Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery (Hwy 197).
