Lennis Bennett Hughes of Bakersville,
North Carolina has moved on to the next stage of her being as of
August 15, 2007. Born on May 7, 1906 she was 101years of age. Never
wanting to leave her Buladean home where she enjoyed along with so
many other things, having a garden with all the picking, canning or
freezing and storing the corn, tomatoes, potatoes... she lived a
fulfilling life. Until 1992 these fulfilling years were shared with
her husband, Frank Hughes. They were members of and attended
Buladean Presbyterian Church.
Frank and Lennis have three daughters. One daughter is Judy Hughes
Ayers and husband, Claude who live in Dobson, N.C.. Judy and Claude
have two married sons, Lennis' grandsons. Grandson David Ayers and
his wife, Laura live in High Point, North Carolina with baby
son, Noah. Grandson, Michael Ayers and wife, Missy live in
Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Another daughter, Agnes Elizabeth Hughes
retired from teaching in Florida and moved to Asheville, North
Carolina where she could better help her parents. She resides there
at the present time. The
oldest daughter, Thelma Hughes Cumbie has a home in Buladean and
also one in Roswell, Georgia. She has a daughter and son who are
Lennis' grandchilden. A granddaughter is Karen Cumbie Parado who
with her husband, Warren live in Atlanta, Georgia. Grandson
Christopher Cumbie and wife, Kelly live in Acworth, Georgia with
their two sons, Justin and Joshua.
Until she was 99 years of age Lennis lived at
her home in Buladean. She then reluctantly went to the Western North
Carolina Baptist home in the assisted living area and then on to the
nursing home. There she challenged those around her with her sense
of humor and cheerful manner.
The youngest child of Elizabeth Wise Bennett and James Bennett,
Lennis was born in what was then Wilder, then Magnetic City,and now
Buladean in Mitchell County. As a member of Buladean Presbyterian
Church she taught the young people's Sunday School class and often
brought the young people and also the preacher and his wife home
with her for dinner. She could be found at the worship services in
the Mayland Presbyterian Fellowship. She also found the different
services along with worship service at the First Presbyterian
Church of Burnsville very rewarding.
The family will receive friends
Sunday, August 19, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. with the funeral services at
2:00 p.m in the chapel of Henline Hughes Funeral Home with
Maggie Lauterer officiating. The burial will be immediately
afterward in the Bennett Cemetery on Broad Branch Road in the
community of Buladean.Memorial
contributions may be made to the Hospice of your choice.
