Never wanting to leave her Buladean home where she enjoyed along with so many other things, having a garden with all the picking, canning or freezing and storing the corn, tomatoes, potatoes... she lived a fulfilling life.  Until 1992 these fulfilling years were shared with her husband, Frank Hughes. They were members of and attended Buladean Presbyterian Church.

Frank and Lennis have three daughters. One daughter is Judy Hughes Ayers and husband, Claude who live in Dobson, N.C.. Judy and Claude have two married sons, Lennis' grandsons.  Grandson David Ayers and his wife, Laura live in High Point, North Carolina with baby son, Noah.  Grandson, Michael Ayers and wife, Missy live in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Another daughter, Agnes Elizabeth Hughes retired from teaching in Florida and moved to Asheville, North Carolina where she could better help her parents.  She resides there at the present time.

Until she was 99 years of age Lennis lived at her home in Buladean. She then reluctantly went to the Western North Carolina Baptist home in the assisted living area and then on to the nursing home. There she challenged those around her with her sense of humor and cheerful manner.

The youngest child of Elizabeth Wise Bennett and James Bennett, Lennis was born in what was then Wilder, then Magnetic City, and now  Buladean in Mitchell County.  As a member of Buladean Presbyterian Church she taught the  young people's Sunday School class and often brought the young people and also the preacher and his wife home with her for dinner. She could be found at the worship services in the  Mayland Presbyterian Fellowship.  She also found the different services along with  worship service at the First Presbyterian Church of Burnsville very rewarding.
