| DATELINE: SPRUCE PINE, NC ELVA HUGHES
Elva Hughes, age 83, of Spruce Pine died Saturday, May 23, 2009
at the Brian Center Rehabilitation and Care. She loved working
in her flower garden and loved her cats, and listening to her gospel
music. Ms. Hughes was born in the Pigeon Roost Community March
9, 1926 and was the daughter of the late Dove and Mira Hughes.
She was a member of the Pigeon Roost Freewill Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by six brothers, Garfa, Dewey, Park,
Conway, Floyd, and Cecil Hughes, three sisters, Gertie Barnett, Sena
McCourry, and Edith Miller, and a host of nieces and nephews.
She had lived in Spruce Pine in the Altapass Community for the
past twenty years near her sister the late Edith Miller and niece
Ethel Stafford and family. She had a special caregiver Stacy
Yarbrough of Bakersville until going to the nursing home. She
is survived by a host of nieces and nephews. She is also
survived by a special grand niece Rachel Stafford who helped care
for her. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 25, 2009 at
12:00PM in the Chapel of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home in Bakersville,
NC. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Joe Brown will be officiating the service. Interment will
follow in the White Pine Cemetery on Byrd Creek Road. Henline-Hughes
Funeral Home is assisting the Hughes family. |
