Alvin C. Honeycutt
"Big Al"
February 21,
1943-December 18, 2007
Alvin C. Honeycutt passed away peacefully on Dec. 18, 2007 at Spruce
Pine Hospital. He was born on Pigeon Roost Creek Feb. 21, 1943, the
only son of Luther Honeycutt and Emma Jane Ray Honeycutt. He was
crippled from age 18 months on by juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, and
spent much of his younger life in hospitals. However, he had a
brilliant, active mind and excelled in the electronics field. During
periods of remission, he lived independently and worked for Simpson
Electronics in Chicago, Ill. He held the distinction of wiring the
instrument panel for the first space craft sent aloft by the United
States.
Preceded in death by his father, Al is survived by his devoted
mother, who cared for him faithfully all his life. He also leaves
three sisters and their families, who loved him: Claudette H.
Imbriano, her daughter Deborah Marcantonio and husband Dino, and
grandchildren Melissa and Armandino, Stella H. Baucom and husband
Jimmy, daughters Heide Hart and husband Teddy, Raina LaGlenne and
husband Jay, and Sheila Honeycutt and son Kevin Bennett and
granddaughter Victoria, and daughter Angela Eudy and husband Eddie
and grandson Alex. He also leaves long-time friend Peter Hoegl of
New York. Heartfelt gratitude goes to Mike Burleson, without whose
assistance Al would never have been able to remain in his own home,
his caregivers Sharon McIntosh and Margaret Yelton, for all the
years of loving care, and Jeff of Blue Ridge Home Health Care, who
delivered his oxygen and became his friend. Gratitude also goes to
the Pigeon Roost Church of the Brethren for their faithful love and
prayers, and to
all the friends and neighbors who cared. We will never forget the
CCU staff at Spruce Pine Hospital who treated him with such
compassion and respect, and Dr. Arch Woodard, who was there to the
end. Lastly, thanks to God for lending Al to us for 64 years. He
taught us lessons of patience, strength and courage we will never
forget.
Following cremation, a private graveside service will be held. A
memorial service with a gospel singing--one of the things Al
loved--is planned for a later date.
Henline-Hughes served Al's family during this time.
My
Brother

Snowflakes falling on your grave
Silently, without hesitation.
A Christmas blanket covered in white raiment.
One day, I too will lie by your side.
Oh brother, dear brother,
This pierced heart of mine will be gone.
A brand new heart will be given by God.
You and I together will roam the heavens,
Frozen teardrops disappearing in the snow.
Two souls, running joyously through a blue sky.
No remembrance of the past.
No remembrance of the past.
We'll love you forever, Al. Your sisters Claudette, Stella and
Sheila
