GARLAND
Burl "Pops" Garland, age 90, of Duck Branch Rd, Bakersville, NC
went to be with the Lord Thursday, April 12, 2007. He died
peacefully at his home following a short illness. "Pops" just
celebrated his 90th birthday on March 27, 2007 with a party that his
family will cherish forever. He was the son of the late Nathan and
Mercy Griffith Garland. He will be remembered as the oldest deacon
and member of Mine Creek Baptist Church. Burl retired from Spruce
Pine Lumber Company and he enjoyed every moment watching his family
grow to Five Grandchildren, Six Great Grandchildren, and several
Nieces and Nephews. He was a dedicated husband of 69 years to Nell
Garland and he was the proud Father of three children; Jean McCourry,
and Roger Garland of Bakersville, NC, and Anne Hughes, of Johnson
City, TN. He was preceded in death by; four sisters, and two
brothers. Surviving siblings include; Lloyd Garland, of Unicoi, TN,
Gertha Gage, of Unicoi, TN, Monnie Love, of Erwin, TN, and Marie
Branham, of Rockwood, TN.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 15 at 3:00PM in Mine
Creek Baptist Church with Kenneth Murphy and Wade Boone officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 until the service hour at
the church. Interment will follow at Mine Creek Cemetery.
