Mary Jane Cook, age 100, went home to be with the Lord on June
22, 2010. She was a native of Mitchell County, NC, and was the
daughter of the late John L. and Polly Cook Buchanan. She was
a homemaker and a member of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church.
She spent much of her time reading her Bible, making quilts, making
jelly (and giving it away), gardening and working puzzles.
Survivors include: son, Homer Cook and wife Jane of
Bakersville, NC, sister, Vivian Spindler and husband Jake of Tyner,
NC, grandchildren, Rosemary and husband Robert Joseph Allen, Stan
Cook and wife Lisa of Spruce Pine, NC, great grandchildren, Robert
Joseph Allen III, Christopher Daniel Allen, Chloe Elizabeth Cook,
several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: husband, Thomas Cook, sons, Hancel
and Thomas Jr. Cook, sisters, Zelma Greer, Nellie Hobson, Nan
McKinney, Rittie McKinney, Sally Yelton, brothers, Fayette and Homer
Buchanan.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 26, 2010 at 8:00PM
in the Chapel of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home in Bakersville, NC.
Visitation will be two hours prior to the service. Ronnie
Gouge, Dallas Renfro, and Wade Campbell will be officiating the
service. Interment will be Sunday, June 27, 2010 at 1:00PM in
the Spruce Pine Memorial Cemetery.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Brian Center
administration, the wonderful nurses and cna's, cafeteria staff, and
caregivers, her special angel Lynda Gertz, and also to Jean Greene
and Wade Campbell who she loved very much. A special thanks also to
Hospice of Mitchell County.
