| DATELINE: SPRUCE PINE, NC

BURBAGE HENRY BUCHANAN
Burbage Henry Buchanan, 90, passed away peacefully on June 22,
2010 at the Brian Center in Spruce Pine. Born April 19, 1920,
in Bakersville, NC, Burbage was the son of Steven Green and Callie
Monway Buchanan.
He was preceded in passing by wife Gladys Buchanan, in 1981, and
later by Wilma Rose Buchanan, in 2009; a brother, Kenneth Buchanan,
sister Eva Snyder Stamey, and sister Elizabeth Sisk.
He is survived by his daughter Joyce Buchanan Orndoff and
husband, G. Michael Orndoff of Spruce Pine, two grandchildren,
Gregory M. Orndoff of Bakersville, Jason Orndoff and wife Nikki, and
great-grandson Graham Henry Orndoff, a namesake. Jason and
family live in Hickory.
Burbage is also survived by a special sister-in-law, Dessie
Callahan, by a special nephew Bruce Ward who visited him frequently
at Brian Center, and several other nieces and nephews whom he loved
very much.
Burbage served honorably in the United States Navy during WWII
and also served numerous veterans and their families as a Veteran's
Service Officer, based in Mitchell County, for 22 years until
retirement. People frequently visited Burbage in his room at
the Brian Center and expressed how much they appreciated his help to
them or a member of their family with veterans services. The
family thanks all those who expressed those sentiments.
Burbage was also a master carpenter, rockhound, farmer, real
estate broker, salesman for Amway and Golden Pride products, and
other occupations and hobbies during his life. He was one of
the most positive individuals one will ever meet; he kept a good
attitude even during his last years when his health was declining
and he could no longer attend his church or engage in all the other
activities he had enjoyed so much.
During his last years, Burbage resided at Brian Center where he
was known by all as helping other residents and participating in any
church services and other activities. He particularly loved
those who came to sing for the residents.
He served as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and
great-grandfather for his entire time with us, and will be greatly
missed.
Burbage attended Cane Creek Freewill Baptist Church until he was
unable to drive. He served as an adult men's Sunday school
teacher until he could no longer come to church.
Visitation will be held from 6:30 until 7:30PM on June 25, 2010,
at the Henline-Hughes Funeral Home in Bakersville, NC, and a funeral
service will follow from 7:30-8:30PM with the Rev. Don Stafford
officiating. Burbage will be laid to rest in Cane Creek
Cemetery #2 on June 26, 2010 with full military honors being
provided by the North Carolina Honor Guard.
Henline-Hughes is assisting the Buchanan family.
