DATELINE; BAKERSVILLE, NC
JAMES LEE YELTON, age 81 of Saylors Lake Rd, Bakersville, NC passed away February 5, 2014 at his home. He was a native of Mitchell County, NC and a son of the late Bristoe and Ethel Stanley Yelton. He was a Veteran of The United States Marine Corp where he served in Vietnam and Korea, and was a member of Bakersville Baptist Church. He was a lifetime member of The VFW Post 8060. He was previously employed with General Motors and The Mitchell County Public School System.
Survivors include; his wife Margaret Calvert Yelton, of the home, two daughters; Alicia Marguerite Yelton Powers, and husband Dan, of Corona, California, Lisa Campbell Ford Russell, and husband David, of Telford, TN, sons; James Allen Yelton and wife Paula, of Spruce Pine, NC, William Joseph Yelton, and wife Marilyn, of Burnsville, NC, step-children; Evelyn Laws, of Hickory, NC, David Tolley, of Bakersville, NC, and Dale Tolley, of Spruce Pine, NC, sisters; Juanita Yelton Shuffler, Marie Morgan, Edith Street, Shelby Jean Street, brother; George Yelton, eleven grandchildren; Mary Lou Yelton Davis, Shane Vance, Brandy McKinney, Joshua McKinney, Jason Yelton, Ryan Yelton, Alyssa Yelton Henson, Christopher Campbell, Anthony Campbell, Peyton Ford, Chelsey Ford, great grandchildren; Lochlin Vance, Collin Vance, Brayden Pinkerton, Cayden McKinney, Kamilyn Henson, step-grandchildren; Crystal Powers Alvarez, Danny Powers, Gavin Russell, Shelly Zeil, John, Katie, and Caleb Tolley, step-great grandchildren; Valerie, Cheryl, Stanley, Zack, and Arliegh.
He was preceded in death by; daughters; Lucretia Diane Yelton, and Teresa Lee Yelton, Karen Lee Yelton McKinney, one infant son, wives; Rachell Dayton Riegger and Elizabeth Yelton.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 9, 2014 at 4:00PM in Bakersville Baptist Church with Pastor Billy Stewart officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. Interment will follow at Green – Young Cemetery with The North Carolina Honor Guard and VFW Pat Ray Post 4286 Newland, NC conducting Graveside Military Honors.
